Superman Returns (2006)Superman returned and so did I. After a long break of almost a quarter I’m back with my reviews. Believe me; Superman’s return didn’t inspire me to return here. I watched this movie very first day with lot of expectations but I was not satisfied after the movie was finished. Special effects in the movie are amazing but not entertaining. I expected Superman to do lot many stunts but he was busy trying to find true love of his life or putting it more aptly convincing his love to love him. Once Superman takes on his real role of savior and saves the US air force plane, lot of expectations are built in the minds and hearts of lovers of Superhero but as the movie progresses viewer feel cheated and dejected. Main villain’s idea is truly a masterpiece but somehow doesn’t create the magic created by bad guys of Spiderman and Batman. Spacey didn’t look impressive. I respect spacey but here he was wasted. Kal Penn should have got at least couple of dialogues in the movie.
‘Superman Returns’ lacks stunts and real action. All of three major stunts i.e. saving the plane, saving Lois’s family in the ship and throwing away the mountain in the space are tremendous but they alone can’t make two and half hour movie binding and gripping. There’s no real confrontation between the bad guy and the good guy. Superman didn’t try to come close to common men. Superman missed that human touch. Only half of the movie is interesting. As the movie reaches it climax it becomes boring. Routh has done well as Superman. Superman appears on the screen bit late and his entry is also not that interesting. Kent Clark has not been given much importance.
Overall the movie is just good to float but lot of action could have soared this movie to new highs exactly like the Superman. Must be watched once for what Superman does not for what Superman couldn’t do.
