School of Rock

School of Rock (2003)

‘School of Rock’ ….. It rocks. What a great movie this is? This movie combines hefty laughs and sober fun. This movie starts with light comedy and ends up touching hearts of viewers. Black has given a splendid performance and so did the kids. Joan Cusack was also good. Storyline is simple but still very impressive. Black has done everything good to the movie. All the kid characters have been portrayed amazingly. This clean comedy has couple of pseudo emotional sequence which will touch you. This feel-good movie will become more enjoyable if you really are in a good mood. Songs are excellent and kids are amazingly cute.

Initially the movie seems to be slow but then makes up for all the dullness until it reaches climax. There’s nothing seriously wrong with the movie. It’s a sweet appealing movie which gives us lot of relaxation while viewing it. Simply watch this frenzied comedy for Black, the kids and above all the ‘School of Rock’.

Trainspotting

Trainspotting (1996)

I am still trying to find the purpose of this movie. But, there’s no point in scratching your head for pointless games. This is a daring dark movie with lot of radical action (action of mind), humor and totally unexpected stuff. This movie ‘hits’ you most of the time with its dark humor but then don’t try to think too much while watching this crude presentation. It’s not a family movie at all. With inclusion of so many nude and vulgar scenes and being centered on the subject of heroin addiction, it’s one such movie you’d never like to watch with the family.

Initially the movie gives you an impression that director is trying to promote drug addiction but at the end the message is loud and clear. Movie portrays the pathetic life of drug addicts. All the protagonists are real pathetic losers. Movie posed a little difficulty understanding the ‘shite’ jack ‘arse’ Scottish accent but then subtitles can do wonders. More than couple of scenes of the movie are really shitty but then movie on the whole is witty. The scene with the baby is the most impressive of all and is extremely realistic and depressing. Dark humor will keep you smiling but tragic and unexpected happenings will blow your mind.

Somehow I liked all the movies I watched in which Ewan McGregor plays the lead (it’s a different point that I have watched quite a few only) , but I can’t say same for this one. I liked this movie at times and at times hated it. This movie shows the world of despair and self-destructiveness and at the same time charms you with the art of energetic presentation of drug addict losers. Believe me this movie contains some of the sickest scenes ever pictured on celluloid. Bottom-line: If you have a taste for different stuff, then this movie is a must watch but if want to enjoy a movie for orthodox viewing this is complete no-no.

Ice Age

ICE AGE (2002)

Its 2006 and I am eagerly waiting for “Ice Age – The Melt Down”. I love sequels. ‘Ice Age’ is an excellent movie. Animation is just wonderful. Storyline is superb. Set during the Ice Age, a tiger, a sloth, and a mammoth find a lost human baby, and they try to return him to his tribe ‘Ice Age’ is a combination of fun, warmth and wit. It makes you smile most of the times and touches your heart at the end. In most of the sequences, background on screen is amazingly beautiful.

Dialogues like “This is what you do, when you’re in a Herd.” goes deep down your heart. Characters have been portrayed spectacularly. You will fall in love with Manny, the mammoth, the squirrel, the sloth Sid and even Diego the tiger. Baby is too cute to miss. All roller coaster sequences are interesting too. Only thing which I missed in this movie was that punch of anxiety and unpredictability. Most of the sequences were too predictable. Movie is neither an outrageous comedy nor a melodrama. Even when this is an animated picture, it can’t be compared with ‘The Incredibles’ or ‘Finding Nemo’ or ‘Shrek’.

This movie can’t be categorized as any classic but kids will fall in love with this movie. There is a nice moment in the movie when animals trot through a cave whose walls are covered with pictographs. Animation work may not look as state of the art as Pixar's standard, but it uses lighting effects and innovative backgrounds to an equally impressive degree. This movie could be watched once and can be enjoyed too. As a matter of fact, I don’t remember a single animation movie, which I didn’t like. Animation rocks!!!!!
